to lighten the mood…

love life.  have fun, be silly and express yourself (and/or vogue)

inadvertent deep thoughts for today.

Today I had an amazing start to my day: a vigorous yoga class first thing in the morning really works wonders for me….

The instructor said something throughout class that really stuck with me: “It’s a universal truth that right in this moment, or any moment in time, you are exactly where you are supposed to be.”  It made so much sense; this seems like a clue to the meaning of life.  It is so universal!!  I was thinking, yes, that’s so deep and has meaning on many, many levels…obviously she’s talking about more than just being in her class this morning.  We choose our own destiny…etc, etc…so it must be right.  What you are doing right now is supposed to be.  Maybe we’ll need to do something else and change in 10 minutes, but right now, in this moment, it’s necessary and purposeful in some way to our existence in this life.

Well wonderful, I’m feeling great, great things are happening in my life, more great things are about to happen, and I’m happy.  I’m working very hard and it’s paying off.  I’m very lucky and extremely grateful.  (This is all easy to grasp when things are going well).  But just as I took a few steps outside the studio door, my new insights were quickly shaken.  I witnessed the heartbreaking scene of a man receiving a phone call and breaking down.  He started bawling, and I can only imagine that he just received some unimaginable news, seemingly the loss of a loved one.  It’s not very often you truly see a stranger’s raw emotions out in the open like this.  It felt so devastating, I wanted to cry too.  His friends were there to support him and basically had to carry him off.  Heartbreaking.

I started wondering how someone can justify that moment as being exactly where they’re supposed to be.  It’s so difficult to see the bad things that happen (whether within our control or not) as necessary or purposeful, so our faith and beliefs get bruised or broken.  We’ve all had bad things happen, and it’s usually hard not to lose pieces of ourselves from devastation.  I don’t have any answers, only more questions.  But the thing I have learned is to learn something from everything.  Each life experience, major or minute, is worthwhile.  Usually I’ve found that they are lessons about love, purpose and appreciation.
